Pi Zero W not powering up

My Pi Zero W has stopped powering up. I was looking at it and the LED went out and I thought it was rebooting but it never came back up.
It was connected to the power supply that came with it and was not doing anything other than being turned on.

After the event I checked the power supply by getting it to charge my headphones which it did therefore it does not appear to be the power supply.

Have you tried formatting the SD card and installing the latest version of Rasbian? http://s.modmypi.com/noobs

Since i posted my initial correspondence. The pi started working again without changing anything. But it would cut out every now and again for no apparent reason. I have noticed it is getting very warm. It was so warm it distorted the case it was in. I don't know if it has a thermal cutout to protect it and you have to wait for it to cool down before you can start it up again.

Therefore i don't know of the issue is the charger or the pi itself.

I tried powering off my MacBook USB but it got very hot again and the Mac disabled the USB to protect itself saying it was drawing too much power. This tends to suggest the power source is not the issue as it happens on both the Mac USB and the power supply it came with.

At the moment it is not powering up but i will try it again in the morning .

I have loaded raspian and noobs several times and they load fine but after a while the pi turns itself off.

There is no sign of any burning on the Pi.

Thanks for the update.

Sounds like the Pi is faulty so I will have sales contact you to arrange a replacement.
