UPS Pico HV3.0B+ not restarting it power restored during shutdown

Post by smanton » Fri Jun 22, 2018 11:04 pm

I have a project which I bought a UPS Pico for to mount on my R Pi 3.

Everything seemed to work out of the box except in the scenario where I remove the power, then either during shutdown or when shutdown is complete and there is still leds on the power is restored the Pi, the Pi does not restart. The reset pin is in place from P3 down to the Pi. From the documentation my understanding is that this should work.

Also the RR button on the UPS Pico doesn't appear to do anything either. Again from the documentation my understanding is that this should reset the Pi. The use case for this is dependent on being able to automatically restart regardless of what state the power was lost.

Any ideas?

Could you post a picture of the soldered reset pin please.

Also, triple check that the deamon has been correctly installed, make sure ALL steps are followed and ALL packages are installed - https://github.com/modmypi/PiModules/wi ... stallation

I also believe there is about a 30second delay from power returning and the Pi being reset.

Here is a pic of the reset pin.

I did follow the installation instructions very carefully but will double check that all the packages are installed.

I left the Pi for quite a while after restoring power but nothing.

Hmm... Ok, double check those packages.

What OS are you using?

It could be a dry solder joint as well, so maybe get the soldering iron out and apply some fresh solder.

Maybe check that the RUN pin on the Pi as functioning correctly as well:

1. Remove the PIco
2. Power ON Pi
3. Initiate shutdown

Code: Select all

sudo shutdown -h now
4. Pull RUN pin LOW (attach a wire to pin 39 on GPIO, then touch the run pin with it. This will connect RUN to ground)
5. Pi should reset

Hi,

Im using Rasbian 9 (Stretch)

I checked and all packages are installed as per the instructions.

I also resoldered the pin using some new/fresh solder and the same issue was present.

I also checked the RUN pin on the Pi by following your instructions and the Pi DOES reset when connected to pin 39 on the GPIO.

I run the pico_status_hv3.0.py script which is reporting version e0 Firmware. I have looked around and it isn't obvious to me what the latest version is.

I thought that pressing the RR button on the UPS Pico when shutdown is supposed to initiate a reset but it doesn't. Is it likely to be a hardware problem? Is there anything else I can try? A auto reset is a requirement for the project it is being used for so at a loss

It should indeed! Last thing to try would be a firmware upgrade (regardless of your current version) - viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1106

If you could also post your Order ID that'd be great.

Ah, ok it turns out you need to place a jumper on P5 for the reset functionality to work when using the latest PIco on the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B

Thanks Dave,

I am fairly new to this. Can you explain in a little more detail what is required or are there any pics or links you can share that would help.

Thanks

I believe you need to connect P5 to P0 (as shown on page 44 of the attached PDF), but I'm not 100% sure. I'm just waiting on clarification from the manufacture. I'll update you when I hear back from him.

Ok, That's ia bit confusing. I'll await your response from the manufacturers
