Security Camera system - newish user

Post by ejwjohn » Sun Dec 02, 2018 8:12 am

Hello,

I am thinking of setting up a security camera system based on Pi zeros which will have the cameras installed. Communicating via Wireless to a Central Pi 3 which will have additional storage available to save images etc etc. (This is based on a Project documented in TechRadar)

I have done a little Pi work in the past but would not say i have great experience, the one question i cannot seem to get answered reading many articles is if i want to include motion detection on the cameras if need to get the PIR option, but how does that connect to the Pi? is it via the 40 pin connector? As most of the Pi zeros i see for sale do not include this connector.

Thanks

JohnW

You can either use a PIR sensor, like this - https://www.modmypi.com/raspberry-pi/se ... -hc-sr501- which simply connects to the Pi over the GPIO header - https://www.modmypi.com/blog/raspberry- ... -detection

Or, I believe this can also be done in software, if you use MotionEyeOS - https://github.com/ccrisan/motioneyeos

Dave,

Hello, and thanks for your response.

It looks like the Motioneye OS route is the way to go.

I need to read up and make sure i am confident to continue...

Thank You

John W
