Catastrophic Failure

Post by rafaborges » Wed Dec 05, 2018 11:46 am

Hello, support,

Last Friday I got my Raspberry PI Zero W. I also ordered a branded SD card.

The first thing I tried to do was to flash the card with raspbian, but oddly, the SD card was not even detected by my computer. I got a Sandisk that I use for my photo equipment and I was able to flash and run everything just fine.

Yesterday, I decided to give a second try on the branded SD card that you sent. Once again the computer didn't recognize, but I thought that maybe because it could be formatted as a Linux-only file system. So I decided to plug it in my Raspberry. Well...

As soon as the card started burning, I disconnected the power source from the wall and HDMI cable. Now the board is dead.

So what do you guys think? A bad power brick? A short-circuited SD card?

The order reference is 246737.

Well I say... Not seen that before!

I've seen SD cards get extremely hot before, but not burst into smoke like that!!

Safe to say that SD card is dead.

I will have our sales team contact you to arrange a return.

If you can return the following items, we will get them tested and replace anything that's found faulty:

Power Supply - MMP-0018
Raspberry Pi Zero - MMP-0671
SD Card - MMP-1282 (pretty safe to say this is faulty, but worth triple checking)
