Jam Hat Leds not working

Post by coughlanweb » Sat Mar 30, 2019 8:27 pm

Recently purchased 2 Jam Hats and on both boards, LED4 (the second yellow light) does not work on both boards, looking to return and get them replaced?

Thanks

Please post your order ID.

Could you also just confirm you have tried the example scripts found in our getting started guide - https://www.modmypi.com/blog/getting-st ... the-jamhat - and that it is just those leds that aren't working please.

Thanks for that! It's strange that both the same LED on the separate boards are not working, so I'd like to check there's not something else in the set up causing issues!

I notice on the order you have some pi-topPROTO's, so are you attempting to use them on a PiTop or CEED? Can you please confirm that you've tested the Jam HATs directly on the Pi's GPIO? e.g. not through the PiTop's breakout. I wonder if there's a conflict, as I've seen reports of this on PiTop + GPIO Zero before.

Otherwise I'll need to get them back for testing, and I'll pre-test two here to send as replacements.

Hi Jake, yes I’m using them with the pi top proto boards, I will re test later today directly on the gpio and report back

Aha! Interesting - I know that the Pi Top uses the GPIO pins for some functions, screen brightness, volume, shutdown (although I can't specifically find which pins . . . . ) so this could be a conflict.

Let me know how it goes when testing directly on the Pi board and we'll go from there.

Hi Jake

As expected, both boards are working perfect. So the problem seems to be with the proto board, hmm how to get it working with that now

Hi

Although frustrating, that's good to know.

I've noted the pin usage below for the Jam HAT, so this looks like a potential conflict on Pin 33. This is the PWM1 pin, and it looks like the PiTop may use this for screen brightness.

LED1 - Pin 29 / GPIO 5
LED2 - Pin 31 / GPIO 6
LED3 - Pin 32 / GPIO 12
LED4 - Pin 33 / GPIO 13
LED5 - Pin 36 / GPIO 16
LED6 - Pin 11 / GPIO 17
Switch 1 (Connected to R7/R9) - Pin 12 / GPIO 18
Switch 2 (Connected to R8/R10) - Pin 35 / GPIO 19
Buzzer - Pin 38 / GPIO 20

Is there a software setting in the PiTop software to disable this perhaps?

By the way, are you using a PiTop or PiTop CEED?
