Raspberry Pi stopped working after connecting LED with breadboard

Post by Sews » Mon Apr 01, 2019 10:38 am

I'm currently working on my school assignment.
I tried powering an LED using my PI, and the screen just went black, and the pi will no longer boot. I tried using a different sd card but to no avail.

This is very important to me, as without this assignment I won't pass the semester.

I'd like to return it for a replacement if possible.

Hi

It sounds like you may have shorted out the GPIO by connecting incorrect pins. Could you please send me a picture of the set up? What pins did you connect the LED across, and did you use a resistor?

What guide did you use to create the example?

Please also confirm, are any lights/LEDs on the Pi coming on at all?

When you used a different SD card, did you fully format the card, and use a new operating system?

@Jake

Good evening,

I'm sorry for the late reply, but I did not see the email saying that you replied to me till now, as it was in my promotions tab.

I used a setup from the Freenove Ultimate Starter Kit guide. I'm almost certain that I plugged a pin in the wrong hole. I did use a resistor. And yeah, the SD card was fully formatted first and then tested, and it worked on another pi.

I cannot send a picture at the moment, as I'm not in possession of the breadboard, and I cannot remember the mistake I did exactly. I hope that's not an issue.

One LED does indeed light up when it is plugged in, but nothing happens after that.

Thanks for the quick reply, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Unfortunately it sounds like you have damaged the board :(

The raspberry pi is a sensitive piece of equipment and care should be taken when plugging things in/out of it. It is always recommended to ensure the Pi is switched off before plugging anything into the GPIO pins.

If the Pi's red power led illuminates, you may just need to format the SD card (or try a new SD card), try following this guide - http://s.modmypi.com/noobs

@Dave

Thanks for the reply. That was the first thing I tried after it stopped working.. unfortunately to no avail.

Is there any way I can ship it back to the UK for a replacement?

Hope to hear from you soon,
Thanks.

I'm afraid accidental damage isn't covered under warranty so we won't be able to issue a replacement.
